Sundays In Bed With… is hosted by Kate, aka Midnight Book Girl, and is a way for us to share what we’re currently reading. This week, I’m listening to…
I have been waiting for the sequel to Six of Crows for what seems like forever. It came out this week and I finally was able to start listening yesterday. So far it is awesome. Normally, when I’m this excited about a new book, I devour it as quickly as possible. This time, I’m going to take my time and savor it. Fingers crossed I can avoid spoilers.
Even though I’m still at the beginning, the book has delivered on what made the first one so special. Yes, there is the fun heist element of a plan for the impossible job and trying to outsmart your enemies, but there is also a ton of heart. These characters are easy to love and they all have some pretty serious struggles that translate to life outside a magical, criminal world.
Besides reading for personal pleasure, we did something fun in class. Our school-wide summer reading project was for the kids to make a persuasive presentations on a book they read over the summer. The presentations were Thursday and each class voted on the book they thought sounded most interesting. The librarian is requesting copies of these books from other schools in our system, so we can read it as our novel study in November. Here are the winning books for my classes:
Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger – I taught a Steampunk Lit class this summer, so I’m super psyched to bring some of that into our novel study.
The Young Elites – My favorite kind of hero… the anti-hero. There will be some seriously good material here on character studies… my mind is already spinning with project possibilities.
The Devil You Know by Trish Doller – This is the only one I haven’t read yet, so my first goal is to read it. It is amazing to see students get excited about reading, and they were really excited about this book.
