It has been a while. It has been so long, I’m torn between sharing a long update and just jumping right back in. It’s like I forgot how to do this.
Some of you may know that I began teaching high school English this year. It has been awesome, but also exhausting and overwhelming. When you start any job, but I think especially teaching, there is a tendency for the job to take over your life. It definitely has with mine. However, I want to start taking back the things that make me personally happy because I love my job, and I don’t want to love it so hard the first year that I burn out.
Spring Break is a week away. Right now, I am frantically trying to decide which books to read during my time off. Right now I’m definitely reading Liars, Inc. and the new Y.S. Lee Agency mystery, but every time I look around my room, I see more books that I want to read right now. (Actually, I did try to see if I could read a book and listen to an audiobook at the same time, but, as you would expect, it didn’t work.)
For now I’m reading Fake ID by Lamar Giles and listening to Prudence by Gail Carriger.
Fake ID is really great so far. I’m enjoying the mystery and the complex family conflicts the character faces. Sadly, my niece took out my marker, so I have to try to find my place without seeing any spoilers.
I am a HUGE Gail Carriger fan and have read all of her books in this universe. This is her third series set in this world and like the previous two, it has a very headstrong female protagonist about to get up to some extreme hi-jinks. The narrator for this one is the same as for the Finishing School series. I’m used to it now, but I keep thinking of the characters in the other series while listening. I want to go back and reread all of the Parasol Protectorate series, I think. (Because I have so much time for reading.) Also, I’m not sure it matters, but I can’t figure out if this is YA or Adult. I thought it was adult, but it feels YA. Maybe it’s just the narrator.
