house of hades

GoodReads Description: At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape? They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus. Why I’m Excited: Not only do I love this series, but the last one ended on a literal cliffhanger. I am READY for this installment. House of Hades comes out 8 October 2025 from Disney-Hyperion.

Waiting On Wednesday: Exile (Keeper of the Lost Cities #2) by Shannon Messenger

Waiting On Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine, lets us book hoarding bloggers highlight a book we’re excited for each week. This week I’m waiting on Exile (Keeper of the Lost Cities #2) by Shannon Messenger.

Why I’m Excited: Keeper of the Lost Cities was my favorite children’s release last year. I made my sister and my nephew both read it and we are all anxiously waiting for the sequel!

Tune In Tuesday: Covers Part Three (String)

tune in tuesday

Tune In Tuesday is hosted by Kate’s Tales of of Books and Bands and was created by G Reads. September is all about covers and so far I’ve focused on both songs and bands. This week I’ll be featuring all string covers. I never thought I would be into listening to a string performance, but these covers are amazing and I listen to them all the time.

This is the cover that made me fall in love with string covers. I’m so amazed by these two musicians and I hope to see them live. YouTube then suggested this amazing string rendition of a One Republic song:

It’s beautiful, but so much so that I am a little embarrassed to admit that my favorite string cover is…

Yes that’s right. The String Quartet did an entire album tribute to Sum 41 and it is the best album I own.

Waiting On Wednesday: United We Spy by Ally Carter

Waiting On Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine, lets us book hoarding bloggers highlight a book we’re excited for each week. This week I’m waiting on United We Spy by Ally Carter.

GoodReads Description: Cammie Morgan has lost her father and her memory, but in the heart-pounding conclusion to the best-selling Gallagher Girls series, she finds her greatest mission yet. Cammie and her friends finally know why the terrorist organization called the Circle of Cavan has been hunting her. Now the spy girls and Zach must track down the Circle’s elite members to stop them before they implement a master plan that will change Cammie—and her country—forever.

Why I’m Excited: I’ve been reading this series for years and I am both excited and sad to see it come to a conclusion. I found this series during a really rough time in my life. The first book was one of the books that made me fall back in love with reading, which ultimately made me fall back in love with my life. Ally Carter’s website was the first time I saw the advice “Don’t get it right, get it written” which has also had a huge impact on my life. Ultimately, I will read anything Ally writes and I trust her to finish this series strong.

United We Spy comes out 17 September 2025 from Disney-Hyperion.

Tune In Tuesday: Covers Part Two (Artists)

tune in tuesday

Tune In Tuesday is hosted by Kate’s Tales of of Books and Bands and was created by G Reads. The theme for September is covers, which are my favorite, and last week I focused on songs. This week I’ll take a look at covers by some of my favorite bands.

I’ve loved New Found Glory since 8th or 9th grade and this video makes me love them even more. Not only is it a great cover, but the band is clearly having fun in the video. The way the guy leans over to scream into the mic while singing a love song is almost as great as him creeping on the couples who are making out. Speaking of… there is more kissing in this video than in a YA Paranormal romance, but I love the girl revenge theme at the end.

About the time I started listening to New Found Glory, I started listening to another band. Don’t ask me why, but this next song is one of my all time favorite covers:

And finally, Fall Out Boy, a band I’ve loved for years. Go ahead and judge me, but their latest album is fantastic.

Plus Michael Jackson covers are always awesome.

Sundays In Bed With… Grave Mercy

Sundays in bed with is hosted by Kate at Midnight Book Girl. This week I’m in the middle of two books that are majorly stressing me out, but I’m only going to share one with you:

This is the sequel to Grave Mercy and once again the audio version is fantastic. However, I can only listen in short bursts because it puts me so on edge. I’m both dreading and dying to continue listening. I may need to google spoilers to get through this one.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. This week I picked up two books for my nook. Hemlock has been on my wishlist for a while and it is currently on sale; I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have To Kill You is one of my favorites and is currently free. I also went to a signing:

I had a blast hanging out with some DC area bloggers and I picked up two copies of All Our Yesterdays and will be giving one away soon.

Waiting On Wednesday: The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White

Waiting On Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine, lets us book hoarding bloggers highlight a book we’re excited for each week. This week I’m waiting on The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White.

chaos of stars

GoodReads Description: Isadora’s family is seriously screwed up.

Of course, as the human daughter of Egyptian gods, that pretty much comes with the territory. She’s also stuck with parents who barely notice her, and a house full of relatives who can’t be bothered to remember her name. After all, they are going to be around forever—and she’s a mere mortal.

Isadora’s sick of living a life where she’s only worthy of a passing glance, and when she has the chance to move to San Diego with her brother, she jumps on it. But Isadora’s quickly finding that a “normal” life comes with plenty of its own epic complications—and that there’s no such thing as a clean break when it comes to family. Much as she wants to leave her past behind, she can’t shake the ominous dreams that foretell destruction for her entire family. When it turns out there may be truth in her nightmares, Isadora has to decide whether she can abandon her divine heritage after all.

Why I’m Excited: I loved White’s Paranormalcy and Mind Games. She’s able to write these exciting stories that are just fun and I love getting lost in her stories. I haven’t read much about Egyptian mythology, but I am excited to see her take on it.

The Chaos of Stars comes out 10 September 2025 from Harper Teen.

Sundays In Bed With… Unraveling

Sundays in bed with is hosted by Kate at Midnight Book Girl. This week I’m in bed with a fabulous audiobook. I expect to finish this book tonight:

I can not get over how much I am enjoying this book. I am considering changing my review format to just include my WTF moment section, because I feel like every few chapters there is a major game changer.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

This week I bought two Sarah Dessen novels: What Happened to Goodbye and Lock & Key. I also bought Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris on audible, because… obviously.

Sundays In Bed With…Bardugo and Maas

Sundays In Bed with is hosted by Kate at Midnight Book Girl. This weekend, I’m in bed reading as much as I can, because my new semester starts tomorrow. It’s my last semester of classes before student teaching and I think it’s going to be my best semester yet. Currently, I’m almost done with two books that are both stressing me out because they are so good:

Siege and Storm is the Sequel to Shadow and Bone and I’m loving it even more. I had no idea where this book would go and it went somewhere I didn’t even think was a possibility. I’m terrified to get to the end, because I know the wait for book three will be excruciating. This one is on audio, so I’ll be looking for excuses to get in the car today. Or maybe it’s time to pull out my knitting.

Crown of Midnight is just… whoa. Again, intense and going places I didn’t expect. The new characters are upping the tensions, I’m terrified for everyone, and again, the end is going to suck because of the long wait for book three.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. This week, I’ve been chipping away at a Barnes & Noble Gift Card by nabbing some steals for my nook:

Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs
Butter by Erin Jade Lange
Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King

Plus, even though I already have it on my kindle, I bought Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris through audible.

Waiting On Wednesday: Vicious by V. E. Schwabb

Waiting On Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine, lets us book hoarding bloggers highlight a book we’re excited for each week. This week I’m waiting on Vicious by V.E. Schwabb. Okay, technically, I already have an ARC of this, but I want to spend the next few weeks highlighting books I picked up at BEA that are releasing soon and that I’m planning on reading in the next few weeks.

GoodReads Description: A masterful, twisted tale of ambition, jealousy, betrayal, and superpowers, set in a near-future world.

Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong.

Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will.

Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?

Why I’m Excited: It’s a villain origin story with super heroes, a blurred line between good and evil, and science! The line for this book was INSANE at BEA so I know a lot of people are completely psyched for it. It’s one of the next books I plan on reading and I’m so excited.

Vicious comes out September 24, 2025 from Tor.
